New Horizons? Comparisons and Frames of Reference of Polish Multiple Migrants Worldwide

Building on the literature transnational social fields (Levitt & Glick Schiller, 2004) and research agenda pluri-local studies (Pries, 2001), in this article we examine processes of Polish migrants’ positioning. Nowadays many migrant trajectories are more complex than moving just from one place to another, involving repeated migration spells, returns, onward mobility. In particular, multiple routes destination expand horizons lived by migrants hence frames which they can position themselves. We adopt an actor-centred approach better understand how highly mobile individuals negotiate comparisons concerning contexts have engaged during their spells. This draws qualitative data MULTIMIG project that examines worldwide. The analysis is based a panel study with 70 Poles living abroad, who experience (who two countries outside Poland for at least three months each). interviews shed light make comparisons, reference adopt.
